Photographs of Mençuna Lodges and the valley around it — the wooden bungalows and their waterfall-facing balconies, the stone lodge rooms, the stream that runs in front of the property, our glass-enclosed restaurant and open terrace, and the Mençuna Waterfall itself.
The valley changes character through the season. In spring the water runs high and the forest is at its most vivid; by high summer the valley is deep green and noticeably cooler than the coast; in autumn the colour turns. We are open from 21 March to 30 November.
Mençuna Lodges sits at the entrance to the Kamilet Valley in the Arhavi district of Artvin, on Turkey’s eastern Black Sea coast. The Kamilet Stream flows right past the lodges, and the Mençuna Waterfall — 90 metres high and falling in two tiers — is about 200 metres away as the crow flies. From the lodges it is roughly a 20-minute walk up a sloping, stone-paved path, and both the waterfall entrance and its car park are free.
Every room has an oil-filled radiator for heating, a minibar, a kettle with tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi. You can find floor sizes and more detail on our rooms page.
Breakfast is included with every stay: a local Black Sea spread with butter, honey, several cheeses, muhlama (the region’s cornmeal and cheese dish), hot pan dishes and plenty of brewed tea. It is served in our 36 m² restaurant, fully enclosed with sliding glass panels that look out towards the waterfall, or on the 50 m² open wooden terrace when the weather is kind. In the garden there is a barbecue area and a gazebo that guests are welcome to use.
Many of our photos are taken along the stream. Children can paddle in its shallow, safe stretches, and it is possible to catch trout there. Further afield you will find the historic Double-Arched Bridges (Çifte Kemer Köprüler), the Dikyamaç Lifestyle Museum in Arhavi, and Borçka Karagöl lake, about 70 km and roughly an hour’s drive away. See our experiences page for ideas, or read more about us.
