Experiences

Kamilet Valley rewards people who slow down. Here is what guests actually do while staying with us.

Walk to the Mençuna Waterfall

The waterfall drops roughly 90 metres and is among the tallest in the Eastern Black Sea region. From the car park, the walk takes 20–30 minutes depending on your pace, crossing a wooden bridge and climbing a forest path. Allow two to three hours for the whole visit if you want time to take photographs and explore.

The stream in front of the lodges

You do not have to go anywhere for this one. The stream runs directly in front of the buildings. Its shallow, calm sections are safe for children to swim in, and a little upstream there is trout for anyone willing to be patient.

Forest trails

Beyond the main path to the waterfall, Kamilet Valley has trails at several levels of difficulty. Local guides can be arranged — ask us and we will put you in touch. Late May to October is the most comfortable window for walking.

Day trip: Borçka Karagöl

About 70 km away, roughly one hour by car. This landslide-dammed lake formed some two hundred years ago and is famous for its mirror-still surface, which reflects the surrounding forest almost perfectly. Go early: once the wind picks up around midday, the reflection disappears. Autumn is the celebrated season, when the forest colour doubles in the water.

Eating in the valley

Our new glass-enclosed restaurant and open wooden terrace look out over the valley. Breakfast is a full regional Black Sea spread — village eggs, homemade jams, local cheeses, honey and unlimited tea. Guests are also free to use the barbecue and kitchen.

Photography

Morning mist in the valley, the waterfall in high water after rain, and long-exposure work at the stream are the usual draws. Drone footage of the valley is spectacular, but please respect other guests’ privacy and local rules.
